Detecting air gaps in clear tubes was a lab automation challenge for many years — until Panasonic introduced the BE-A series bubble detection sensors. These impressively small and value-priced sensors clamp onto the OUTSIDE of clear polyvinyl tubes (typically used in lab automation and liquid analysis applications) to detect when flow within the tube is interrupted by the presence of air gaps.
